About

Korea, Actually is a practical information project focused on how everyday life in Korea actually works — for visitors, newcomers, and long-term residents alike.

It started from a simple observation: most information about Korea online is either written for short-term tourists (transportation, sightseeing, food) or scattered across forums and outdated blog posts when it comes to the practical, day-to-day questions people run into once they’re actually here — using an ATM, understanding a payment screen, figuring out what’s normal versus what’s a scam, or navigating a system that doesn’t work the way it does back home.

Korea, Actually exists to close that gap: clear, current, and specific answers, built and checked against official sources and real on-the-ground conditions rather than repeated guesswork.

How this site is put together

Every guide on this site follows the same process:

  • Source-checked. Practical and procedural information (fees, limits, rules, opening hours, legal status) is checked against official sources — government agencies, banks, transit operators, or official tourism bodies — rather than copied from other blogs.
  • Written for decisions, not trivia. The goal of each page is to help you decide what to do next, not just to explain a fact. Where something varies by location, provider, or situation, that’s stated explicitly rather than flattened into a single “always true” answer.
  • Kept current. Prices, rules, and procedures in Korea change. Pages are reviewed and updated when something changes, and the “last updated” date reflects that — not just a republish for its own sake.
  • Corrected when wrong. If something on this site is inaccurate, outdated, or unclear, it gets fixed. Reader corrections are welcome (see Contact below) and are the fastest way to flag an issue.

Who’s behind it

Korea, Actually is run by a small independent team with direct experience navigating daily life in Korea as outsiders — the kind of practical friction that’s easy to miss if you’ve never had to figure it out yourself. The site is not affiliated with any government body, tourism board, bank, or transportation provider mentioned in our content. Content is researched and written in-house, with official sources cited or linked where relevant.

How this site is supported

Korea, Actually is supported by display advertising. This helps keep every guide free to read, and does not affect which topics we cover or what we say about them — see our Editorial Policy below for how we keep coverage and advertising separate.
