Where Was My Package Delivered in Korea? 문앞, 경비실 & 무인택배함 Explained

If your Korean tracking page says 배송완료 but you cannot see the parcel, start with the exact delivery-location wording.

A status marked 배송완료 means the courier system recorded the delivery as complete. It does not automatically mean you personally received or saw the package.

Use the location term, recipient field, delivery photo, and message together before deciding that the parcel is missing.

What does the delivery-location message mean?

Korean term Plain English What it usually means What to check next
문앞 In front of the door A drop point described as being at or in front of a door Check the delivery photo/message and compare the visible door or building details
현관앞 In front of the entrance / front door The entrance or front-door area recorded as the handoff or entrusted location Confirm which entrance is shown, especially if the building has more than one
경비실 Security / guard office The building or apartment-complex security office, if one exists and accepts parcels Ask the guard/security desk using the recipient name, unit number, and delivery time
관리실 Building / property management office A management office or its designated parcel-storage area Ask the management office or check its parcel shelf or storage room
무인택배함 Unmanned parcel locker A self-service parcel locker Check SMS/app notices for the exact locker location, box number, and retrieval method
택배함 Parcel box / parcel locker A generic parcel-storage box or locker Check the building/app message for the exact type and retrieval method
공동현관 Shared / common building entrance The common entrance or lobby used by multiple units Check the shared entrance/lobby and compare any delivery photo
직접수령 Received directly / handed to a person Recorded as a direct handoff rather than a location drop Check the recipient/인수자 field to see who was recorded
부재 Recipient absent The recipient was unavailable for direct handoff Read the next message for a storage location, contact request, or re-delivery instruction
부재중 Recipient not present / away Similar practical meaning to 부재 Check the next courier message; it does not mean the parcel was automatically returned
배송완료 Delivery completed / marked delivered Courier-recorded completion, which can include placement at an agreed location Check time, recipient/location field, photo, and SMS/app notice
보관장소 Storage / holding location A field showing where the parcel was stored or left Read the exact place written after the field
수령장소 Receiving / pickup location A general field for where the parcel was or should be handed over Look for a specific place such as 문앞, 경비실, 관리실, or 택배함
인수자 Receiver / person recorded as taking delivery Usually a person/name field, but some courier messages combine it with a location field Check whether the value is actually a person, staff member, household member, or place
배송사진 Delivery / drop-off photo A photo recorded around the handoff or drop location Compare door, floor, wall, locker, building, and timestamp details
인증사진 Proof / confirmation photo A courier/platform photo used to document the handoff or drop Use it as location evidence if provided, but still verify the actual place

The location words are clues, not nationwide guarantees. A building can use a unit door, common entrance, guard office, management office, parcel room, or locker depending on its layout and access rules.

If it says 문앞, does that mean my apartment door?

Not always.

문앞 means in front of the door, but the relevant door depends on the building and the courier’s recorded drop point.

In an apartment or officetel with restricted access, that could be different from your private unit door. If the message or photo shows a shared entrance, lobby, or another doorway, use that evidence rather than assuming 문앞 must mean your unit.

현관앞 is more explicitly in front of the entrance / front door, but it still does not prove that you personally received the parcel.

What is the difference between 경비실 and 관리실?

They are not the same place.

경비실 means a security or guard office.

관리실 means a building or property management office.

Some properties may have both. Others may have only one, or may use a separate parcel shelf or parcel room.

If the delivery message names one of them, check that named place first.

Do not assume every apartment or officetel has a guard office or that every guard office accepts parcels.

What does 무인택배함 mean?

무인택배함 means an unmanned parcel locker.

One current official Seoul locker system uses a notification message and authentication code, but that is only one system. There is no single nationwide locker workflow.

If your message says 무인택배함, check the SMS, app, or building notice for:

  • exact locker location
  • box or compartment number
  • access code or retrieval method

택배함 is more generic. The word alone does not prove that the locker is automated or code-operated.

What should you do if tracking says 배송완료 but the parcel is missing?

Start with the delivery record instead of searching randomly.

  1. Read the exact delivery-complete message.
Check the delivery time, 인수자, 위탁장소, 보관장소, or any other location wording.
  2. Open the delivery or proof photo if one is available.
Compare the door, floor, wall, locker, building entrance, and timestamp with your actual location.
  3. Check the place that is actually named.
    • 문앞 / 현관앞 → check the relevant entrance
    • 경비실 → ask the security desk
    • 관리실 → ask the management office
    • 무인택배함 / 택배함 → check the locker and notification
    • 공동현관 → check the shared entrance or lobby
  4. Ask household members or relevant property staff.
Someone may have accepted or moved the parcel after delivery.
  5. If the location is unclear or the parcel is still missing, contact the driver or courier promptly.
Ask them to confirm the exact drop point, recipient/location record, and any delivery photo.
  6. If the courier cannot resolve it, contact the seller or platform.
Keep the tracking number, delivery-complete record, and courier response ready.

If the issue becomes a compensation or legal dispute, that is a separate process. This page is only for understanding the delivery record and deciding what to check next.

Does 배송완료 mean the courier definitely handed it to me?

No.

배송완료 means the courier system has recorded the delivery as complete.

Under Korea’s current parcel standard-terms framework, placing a parcel at a mutually agreed location can count as completed delivery. That is different from a courier unilaterally choosing an unagreed location.

So a completed status can be consistent with a parcel sitting at an agreed door, guard office, or other agreed drop point even if you have not physically picked it up yet.

This guide does not decide liability or compensation. It explains what the delivery record can and cannot tell you.

Be careful with the 인수자 field

인수자 normally refers to the receiver or person recorded as taking delivery.

But some courier messages use a combined field such as:

인수자(위탁장소)

That field can contain a place, not a person’s name.

For example, if it says:

인수자(위탁장소): 현관앞

the useful information is that the recorded location was 현관앞. Do not interpret that as a person named “현관앞.”

If the field contains an actual person’s name, check whether that person is a household member, property staff member, or someone else who could have accepted the parcel.

What can a delivery photo prove?

A delivery or proof photo can help you identify:

  • the door or entrance
  • floor or hallway
  • wall or unit clues
  • parcel locker
  • building exterior or lobby
  • delivery time

But the photo does not prove that:

  • the parcel stayed there afterward
  • the intended recipient later picked it up
  • the parcel is still in the same place now

Not every courier or delivery includes a photo.

Use it as location evidence, then verify the actual place.

What about hotels, Airbnbs, and short-term rentals?

Treat parcel receipt as property-specific.

Some hotels accept parcels at the front desk with prior arrangement and may ask for the reservation or guest name and arrival/check-in date.

Other properties can have different rules for size, storage, timing, or parcel acceptance.

For a hotel:

  • confirm the parcel policy before relying on delivery
  • use the reservation name and any label details the property requests
  • ask the front desk where accepted parcels are stored

For an Airbnb or short-term rental without a staffed front desk, follow the host or property instructions.

Do not assume every hotel or short-term rental accepts parcels.

Who should you contact?

Who What they can usually verify
Property staff Whether a parcel was accepted or moved to a security desk, management office, parcel room, or front desk
Driver / courier Recorded drop point, recipient/location field, delivery time, photo, or other delivery record
Seller / platform Order/shipping record and the next missing-delivery process if the courier cannot resolve the issue

If your problem is before delivery completion—such as 집화처리, 간선상차, 배송출발, or another logistics-stage status—use the Korean Parcel Tracking Status Decoder instead.

This page begins where that one ends: after 배송완료, when you need to work out where the parcel was actually left and what to check next.
